Chief Marine Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the engineering team in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and onboard systems.
• Ensure all engineering systems comply with Indian and international maritime regulations (IMO, ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
• Oversee technical performance of vessels or shipyard engineering teams, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency.
• Manage dry docking, vessel repairs, and planned maintenance schedules.
• Provide technical expertise during newbuild projects, retrofits, or conversions.
• Coordinate with ship classification societies, flag states, and port authorities as needed.
• Prepare and manage engineering budgets, reports, and operational documentation.
• Implement and monitor preventive maintenance systems and technical audits.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers and onboard technical personnel.
• Liaise with suppliers, service providers, and technical vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective solutions.

Requirements:

• Class I Marine Engineer (MEO Class 1 COC – Unlimited) or equivalent professional marine engineering qualification.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including sailing experience as Chief Engineer and/or shore-based technical management.
• Deep understanding of marine engineering systems, ship operations, and statutory regulations.
• Experience with maintenance and repair of marine engines, generators, HVAC, ballast systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Familiarity with planned maintenance systems (PMS), safety management systems (SMS), and marine ERP tools.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects, and lead diverse technical teams.
• Willingness to be based in India and travel nationally and internationally as required.
