Consultant Chemist - Forensic Investigations 

Join our clients dynamic team at their oil consultancy division as a Consultant Chemist, where you'll spearhead forensic investigations into quality disputes across a diverse range of liquid cargoes and fuels. You'll play a pivotal role in providing technical insights to clients in the marine and energy sectors, including global entities such as insurance companies, oil traders, bunker suppliers, and ship owners, among others.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • conducting on-site investigations at short notice, gathering crucial evidence, overseeing sampling procedures in line with international standards, and managing high-pressure scenarios with finesse.
  • Your expertise will be instrumental in conducting laboratory analyses using both routine international standard methods and advanced forensic techniques.
  • Subsequently, you'll consolidate your findings into comprehensive technical reports and may even offer expert testimony in legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site forensic investigations globally, spanning vessels, shore storage terminals, refineries, and laboratories.
  • Develop and implement sampling and testing protocols adhering to international standards.
  • Supervise and witness sampling operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Gather pertinent evidence related to incidents under investigation, including thorough documentation review.
  • Lead laboratory analysis utilizing standard test methods and advanced analytical techniques.
  • Effectively manage cases by liaising with clients, stakeholders, and other experts involved.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and provide expert advice to clients.
  • Participate in client meetings to discuss investigation findings.
  • Offer expert testimony in mediation, arbitration, or court proceedings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Petroleum Chemistry.
  • Proven experience in oil, petrochemical, and bunker fuel sampling.
  • Expertise in testing petroleum products and petrochemicals according to international standards and advanced instrumental techniques (e.g., Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry).
  • Willingness to travel at short notice and work flexible hours.
  • Self-motivated, pragmatic, and adept at problem-solving.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, both in the field and within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Preparedness to provide expert witness testimony as needed.
