We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of HR to join our clients company by delivering strategic and operational HR policies, projects, and interventions. As the leader of a small but dynamic HR team you will spearhead the transformation and integration of the companies culture, promoting core values through exemplary leadership and inspirational actions. You will be a crucial part of the organizational leadership team, contributing to the achievement of the organization's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director of HR to develop and implement HR strategies and policies.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing HR team.
  • Drive HR processes and people management strategies, fostering a culture of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
  • Ensure effective and efficient implementation of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with current regulations, professional standards, policies, procedures, and legislation, including data protection and the Equality Act 2010.
  • Develop and execute HR strategies, covering Recruitment, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Reward and Recognition, and HR systems, managing an HR budget.
  • Promote continuous improvement, focusing on engagement and welfare activities, productivity maximization, and building leadership capability.
  • Lead the transformation and strengthening of the organization's culture, ensuring PLA’s values and approaches are upheld.Implement a diversity, equality, and inclusion plan aligned with PLA values and business strategy.
  • Equip managers with the skills and resources needed to manage workforce issues effectively.
  • Challenge the status quo, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive effective change.
  • Act as the Director of HR in her absence, ensuring the smooth operation of the directorate.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience, with a specialization in employee relations or a similar field.
  • Five or more years of experience managing a team.
  • Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, with the potential to achieve Chartered Fellow status.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a complex, unionized, and preferably safety-critical organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment regulations and best practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HR practices and the ability to integrate HR activities with broader business objectives.
  • Ability to transition between strategic and operational levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership at both organizational and departmental levels.
  • Track record in developing and delivering HR projects and improvements.
  • Experience with leading job evaluation tools, preferably Korn Ferry.
  • Broad experience in HR generalist activities, including Employee Relations, Learning and Development, Compensation & Benefits, and Recruitment and Selection.
  • Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build relationships.
  • Proficiency in developing effective employment policies.
  • Ability to analyze HR data to identify trends.
  • Confidence and experience in operating, presenting, and influencing at senior executive and board levels, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to achieve objectives.
  • Experience in organizational development, change management, and engagement initiatives.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in scoping, initiating, and managing HR projects.
  • Experience in managing and implementing HR Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Experience in the maritime industry or related fields such as transportation, logistics, or utilities is advantageous.
