Consortio, in collaboration with a pioneering company dedicated to ensuring the safety of Britain's busiest inland waterway, is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer. Operating the most advanced port control service, the company facilitates the secure movement of thousands of leisure and commercial vessels annually, actively promoting the use of the river for trade and travel. With a responsibility for 100 miles of river, environmental protection, and user safety, this company is at the forefront of waterway safety.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the continuous functionality of all navigation systems, with a focus on safety and customer service excellence. This position involves conducting planned, preventative maintenance, equipment and system replacement, and leading or supporting project-related integration and delivery. In addition, the Senior Systems Engineer will take on greater strategic responsibilities within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure continuous functionality of navigation systems, including Vessel Traffic Display, Voice Communication systems, IT networking, firewalls, WAN, IoT, 4G and 5G, SIP telephony, virtualization platforms (Hyper-V), and cybersecurity protection services.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults, including complex technical issues, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Escalate issues promptly to appropriate colleagues, management team, or suppliers as necessary.
  • Log actions taken, investigate and understand root causes, and capture future requirements.
  • Share information appropriately and keep customers or stakeholders updated.
  • Install, monitor, maintain, and administer navigation systems, infrastructure, and software, including software and system licenses.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Degree in IT, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable project management experience or qualification.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in a comparable role or setting.
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding, and application of GDPR, cybersecurity principles (minimum Cyber Essentials, NIS, and ISO standards).
  • Knowledge of risks and relevant mitigations, including Working at Height, EMF, and other hazards.
  • Understanding and application of related H&S regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, COSHH).
  • Full driving license.

  • Greater strategic role in the team with additional responsibilities.
  • Leadership in project-related integration and delivery.
