Consortio is partnered with a globally renowned P&I insurance company, boasting a team of over 200 professionals worldwide. Headquartered in London, with offices spanning the globe, we are seeking a dynamic individual to join our esteemed team as a Claims Executive. Responsibility for Provision of Freight, Demurrage, and Defence (FDD) Claims Handling Service and Guidance. This position operates within the Americas Syndicate, supporting Members primarily located in Latin and South America but with global business interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate strong relationships between the Club and existing Members under the Claims team's purview.
  • Manage designated claims following company protocols, offer counsel on claims-related matters, and identify opportunities for loss prevention initiatives.
  • Address a diverse range of P&I issues and a significant caseload pertaining to Defence, including intricate and high-value cases.
  • Exercise a high degree of autonomy, assuming accountability for assigned caseloads while seeking guidance from Syndicate Manager or Claims Directors as needed.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate filing of all electronic correspondence related to assigned claim files, adhering to established practices, and maintaining updated e-files.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks and support the professional development of Syndicate Assistants to optimize their capabilities.
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancement of company procedures and systems.
  • Generate pertinent articles for inclusion in Club publications.
  • Align with Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
  • Undertake other duties within personal competency as reasonably instructed.
  • Attend relevant training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Perform ad hoc duties as necessary.

Person Specification:

  • Prior experience in handling shipping litigation and dispute resolution, gained from P&I club, insurer, law firm, ship owner, or ship agent backgrounds.
  • Ideally, possess a degree in Maritime Law such as LLB or LLM, or equivalent, with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Proficient communication skills encompassing negotiation, presentation, and reporting (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to foster and sustain effective business relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong organizational skills, coupled with motivation and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to deliver high-quality work within stipulated timeframes and effectively prioritize workload.
  • Proactive approach and capability to exercise initiative.
  • Team player mentality.
