We are seeking a highly capable Navigational Surveyor with a strong engineering and scientific background to join the team based in Oxford. This role would particularly suit candidates with an operational maritime background, such as an ex-Royal Navy navigator or a professional with equivalent technical navigation experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting navigation risk assessments, maritime simulations, and technical consultancy projects, applying both analytical and practical expertise to real-world engineering and environmental challenges.

You will be responsible for conducting navigation and maritime risk assessments, contributing to vessel manoeuvring studies, analysing navigational and operational data, and producing high-quality technical reports while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A degree in engineering, science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–10 years of relevant maritime or navigational experience, ideally including operational shipboard or marine consultancy work.
  • Strong understanding of marine operations, navigational systems, and data interpretation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work from the Oxford office as required (typically 2–3 days per week, or full-time on occasion).
  • Professional membership of a relevant body (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers), ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered status.
  • Former Royal Navy navigation or marine operations background.
  • Previous experience within a consultancy environment.
  • Familiarity with maritime simulation systems, marine risk assessment, or hydrodynamic modelling.

This Oxford-based hybrid role offers a competitive package including an excellent pension scheme (up to 20% combined contribution), private healthcare options, and opportunities for professional growth within a respected, research-led organisation. If you’re ready to apply your maritime expertise to innovative, research-driven projects that make a global impact, we’d love to hear from you.
