An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its growing multidisciplinary team. This role suits someone who enjoys leading projects and teams while remaining actively involved in hands-on engineering design work.

You will take responsibility for mechanical design delivery across multiple projects, ensuring technical excellence, mentoring others where appropriate, and playing a key role in driving project outcomes from concept through delivery. You will lead the mechanical engineering scope across assigned projects while remaining closely involved in detailed design work, producing high-quality calculations, drawings, and technical documentation. You will ensure that all work complies with relevant regulatory and classification standards and will manage quality across deliverables through appropriate checking and review processes prior to issue. Acting as a technical interface with clients, suppliers, and external stakeholders, you will ensure effective communication and resolution of technical queries. The role also requires balancing workload across projects, identifying and managing technical risks, supporting project leadership with mitigation strategies, and providing guidance and technical support to junior engineers and designers. You will also contribute to innovation, R&D activity, and continuous improvement initiatives within the business.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in the marine or engineering sector.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering workstreams or projects.
  • Strong hands-on design capability and technical problem solving skills.
  • Ability to produce and review drawings, calculations, and reports.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of deliverables, budgets, and contracts.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.

This is an opportunity to join a business that values technical excellence, leadership, and hands-on engineering. You will work on stimulating projects in a team that encourages innovation and professional growth without forcing you away from the design work you enjoy.
