Consortio is proud to be partnering with a prestigious and highly respected ship management company to support the delivery of excellence to a critical UK maritime contract. This collaboration is built on a shared commitment to quality, safety, and operational integrity in managing specialised government vessels. Together, we’re recruiting for a Technical Superintendent to join a team responsible for ensuring the reliability and technical performance of a dedicated fleet of nuclear fuel carriers. This rare opportunity allows you to play a pivotal role in a sector that is vital to national operations while working alongside one of the most trusted names in the industry.

Reporting to both the Contract Manager and the Operations Director, this role holds responsibility for the safe, compliant, and cost-effective technical management of three highly specialised vessels. It involves managing an annual technical budget of approximately £3 million, overseeing drydockings and major technical projects, and leading teams including Chief Engineers and shore-based support staff. The position demands a hybrid of strategic thinking and hands-on management, blending technical insight with leadership and operational oversight. You will also act as an on-call Marine Emergency Coordinator (MEC), underscoring the critical importance of this position to the contract’s continued success.

To be considered for this role you must meet the following requirements:

  • STCW III/2 Chief Engineer certification and/or a degree in Marine Engineering or a related field
  • At least 15 years of experience in the marine industry, including a minimum of 1 year in a shore-based technical management role
  • Background in tanker vessels and prior shore-based experience is essential – candidates moving directly from sea will not be considered
  • Strong knowledge of ISM Code, Flag and Class requirements, drydocking, and technical project delivery
  • Proven leadership ability, with experience managing engineering teams, promoting a safety-first culture, and conducting appraisals and performance reviews
  • Right to work in the UK without company visa support

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Cumbria, with one to two days a week working from home. Due to the nature of the position, only candidates based locally or within a practical commuting distance can be considered. Unfortunately, remote working, relocation support, or visa sponsorship are not available. If you’re ready to play a crucial role in one of the UK’s most important maritime contracts, apply now with your CV to explore this impactful and rewarding opportunity. In return, you’ll receive a highly competitive salary and the chance to join a company that values excellence, leadership, and long-term contribution.
