Consortio Recruitment is partnering with an established Ship Management company to recruit a Marine Operator for its Athens office. This is an opportunity to join an experienced shipping team supporting a modern dry bulk fleet, working in a position that combines hands-on vessel operations with close coordination across the wider marine, technical, commercial and HSQE departments.

Reporting into the Operations Manager and working closely with the Port Captain, the Marine Operator will share responsibility for the operational support of 12 dry bulk vessels throughout their voyages and port calls. The role will involve maintaining regular communication with Masters and supporting them across voyage planning, cargo operations, port calls, bunkering and vessel readiness. You will review voyage and navigational risks, passage plans and cargo requirements, while monitoring loading and discharging operations and ensuring any operational issues are identified and followed through effectively. You will also coordinate with port agents, review port costs and disbursement accounts, assist with insurance and claims matters and monitor relevant certificates, regulatory requirements and third-party inspections. The position will require close cooperation with the company's commercial, technical, crewing, performance and HSQE teams to ensure vessels continue to operate safely and efficiently.

To be eligible for this role you need:

  • Previous seagoing experience, ideally as a Captain or 2nd officer
  • At least two years' shore-based experience within a relevant marine or vessel operations position
  • Previous experience as a Marine Operator, Marine Superintendent or within a similar operational role
  • Strong knowledge of vessel operations, with dry bulk and cargo operations experience highly desirable
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with Masters and multiple shore-based departments
  • The ability to manage voyage, port and cargo-related operational matters in a fast-moving environment
  • The ability to work from the Athens office
  • The flexibility to undertake occasional vessel attendances, predominantly within Europe

The company offers a competitive salary alongside a performance bonus based on KPI achievement. This is a strong opportunity for someone who has already made the transition ashore and is looking to continue developing their career within dry bulk operations, while retaining close involvement with vessels and their day-to-day activities. The company is looking to appoint as soon as possible and candidates with shorter notice periods will be preferred, so please send your CV to be considered for the position.
