Consortio is partnering with a well-established ship management company to recruit a Port Captain for its Athens office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maritime professional to join a respected organisation managing a modern fleet of 12 Supramax and Ultramax bulk carriers trading worldwide. Reporting directly to senior management, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the fleet.

Working closely with Masters and internal technical, commercial and insurance teams, the Port Captain will oversee day-to-day marine operations across the fleet. The role covers voyage planning and execution, cargo operations, port calls, vessel readiness, regulatory compliance, crew support, emergency response and insurance-related matters, ensuring vessels continue to operate safely and efficiently throughout each voyage. The successful candidate will also conduct vessel visits as required, with approximately 40 to 50 days of travel each year. This is a fully office-based position in Athens.

Requirements

  • Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (STCW II/2 Class A or B).
  • Previous seagoing experience in command as a Master or Chief Officer.
  • Previous office-based experience as a Marine Superintendent, Marine Operator, Port Captain or within a similar operational role.
  • Strong operational knowledge of dry bulk vessel operations.
  • Experience working with geared bulk carrier.
  • Good understanding of cargo operations, cargo hold preparation, draft surveys and vessel vetting processes.
  • Knowledge of Port State Control, Flag State inspections and international maritime regulations, including ISM, SOLAS and MARPOL.
  • Experience handling P&I, insurance or operational claims would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet management or reporting systems.
  • Fluent in both English and Greek.
  • Right to live and work in Greece.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and highly regarded ship management company in a role offering direct exposure to senior leadership and significant responsibility across a modern dry bulk fleet. If you have the experience and background required, please submit your CV for consideration.
