Consortio has partnered with a leading marine and transport insurer they are looking to expand their claims handling capability with the addition of an experienced Transportation Claims Handler specialising in liability-related matters. Based in the vibrant maritime hub of Barcelona, this role offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic team servicing shipowners, operators, and logistics clients across Europe and beyond.
This is a key hire focused on handling complex transport liability claims — including cargo loss/damage, third-party injuries, pollution, port incidents, and multimodal freight liabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload of liability claims across the marine, transport, and logistics sectors.
- Conduct investigations, assess liability, and coordinate claims strategy with internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise effectively with clients, surveyors, correspondents, legal advisors, and brokers.
- Draft clear and accurate coverage opinions in line with P&I terms and transport conventions.
- Prepare reserve estimates, settlement recommendations, and detailed reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal claims protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Support loss prevention and Member/client advisory activities as needed.
Candidate Requirements
- 3–5+ years of experience in marine or transport liability claims handling (e.g., P&I Club, insurer, logistics company, or law firm).
- Strong grasp of international transport conventions (CMR, Hague-Visby, Hamburg Rules) and maritime law principles.
- Legal or maritime qualifications preferred (e.g., LLB, LLM Maritime Law, or equivalent).
- Fluency in English and Spanish essential; additional languages such as Catalan are advantageous.
- Proven ability to manage claims autonomously and with commercial sensitivity.
- Confident communicator with excellent negotiation, drafting, and organisational skills.
- A collaborative and service-focused approach to client relationships.
